it is our choices that show what we trulyare, far more than our abilities. the pathway i chose was obviously sport andrecreation, the choices at school the teaches are always drilling into you that you’vegot to go to university to get a good job and unless you go to university you’re notreally going to make it anywhere in life, that was what we had always been told at schooland the hardest part was do i jump in to something

i am not ready for or do i take the changeand do something i enjoy. at the time i had no idea what opportunities where going tobe thrown at me but then when you get to the end of the twelve months, and in my particularcase, i didn’t want to leave. i had developed such good relationships with the staff andthe students that leaving and going pretty

much back to nothing wasn’t a choice forme so i made sure i did everything i could to stay on for another year and if it wasn’tfor that extra year i don’t recon i would have developed the skills and the confidencei have today. the main thing that opened up for me was anenvironment that i was comfortable in, not only confortable, but also an environmenti knew i could thrive in and being a trainee at masterton college and working in the sportand recreation and administration areas with something i knew i had something to give andby completing a physical education degree at victoria university it’s opened so manydoors that when i am finished i can go on i can teach, i can go on and work in the sportmanagement industry, i can go on and coach

if i want to and that’s the thing that iknew the traineeship would enable me to do, is that it would open the doors for me soi could figure out exactly where i wanted to go. the main thing you find is that you’realways in control of your decisions, your pathway, you’re always in control of yourdestiny i suppose and what i found at victoria university was that in order to get whereyou want to go there is always a way of doing that wether that be through tafe, throughdoing a certificate or through doing a diploma, if you want to get to higher education, ifyou have aspirations to do a particular course there is always a way of getting there.
